Silta – Support and Guidance for Immigrant Youths
Title of the project/ Program | Silta – Support and Guidance for Immigrant Youths |
Town | Region of South-western Finland |
Implementing institution/organization | City of Vantaa |
Age of target group | 17-30 |
Scope of target group | Migrant youths in danger of exclusion. Those who haven’t applied to secondary school or gotten a study place and those who have just arrived to Finland. |
Innovative elements | Supported practical training periods with a project counsellor involved. The counsellor assists the immigrant youths in doing the work and if needed, also supports with learning the Finnish language |
Why is your project considered good practice? | Education is important, and migrant youths don’t educate themselves as highly as the population in average. Besides, one may encounter long waiting periods between courses when integrating to Finland. This project turns the passive waiting period into action on behalf of youths’ own future. |
Objectives | To construct an expert network in the Finnish capital area to support 17–29-year- old immigrant youths who have arrived late in the country. |
Key activities | Training periods. Three theme seminars. Services and expert networks were mapped. |
Duration | 1.9.2008-31.12.2010 |
Expected results | To create a marginalisation-preventing network for migrant youths. |
Number of engaged persons | 64 |
